Lincoln gave this 10 sentence speech after the Battle of Gettysburg which was fought close to the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania from July 1-3, 1863. During this bloody battle over 50,000 soldiers were killed. President Lincoln commemorated the battle and loss of life.
